If you’re interested in helping others lead healthy lives, a dietetics degree can help you get there. It can also help you develop a career in health care, food service or public health nutrition, whether you want to work with people one-on-one or within a team.
Dietetics is an interdisciplinary field that incorporates the science of biology, nutrition and foods to improve the health of individuals. Whether you are administering medical nutrition therapy in a hospital, consulting with an organization’s management, directing a food service operation or providing community health services, a dietetics degree can give you the foundation you need to succeed in this rewarding and challenging profession.
A bachelor’s degree in dietetics prepares you to apply for a dietetic internship and pass the national dietitian exam, which will allow you to become a registered dietitian (RD). You can choose from a variety of degrees and concentrations and pursue graduate study in areas such as nutritional biochemistry, dentistry, nursing, physical therapy or veterinary medicine.
